MEDIA ADVISORY: ANNUAL VETERANS DAY FLAG LAYING CEREMONY AT CENTRAL TEXAS STATE VETERANS CEMETERY

On Monday, November 11, The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery is hosting its annual Veterans Day Flag Laying Ceremony and invites you to join in honoring our United States Veterans. The community is invited and encouraged to attend.A briefing and demonstration on how to place the flags on each burial site will be given by cemetery staff at 8:00 a.m.  Placement of the miniature U.S. Flags on each burial site will take place immediately following the briefing and demonstration. Media is welcome.Monday, November 11 8:00 a.m.

CMR BUSH ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF ARANSAS COUNTY VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM EVENT

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered recently in Aransas County, Texas.The total number of vessels turned in from Aransas County, Texas tallied 31 vessels and 12 boat trailers bringing a total of 130 gallons of fuel/oil collected. The fuel/oil was properly disposed. To date, the General Land Office has collected 742 vessels, 1236 gallons of fuel/oil waste, and 73 boat trailers coastwide since the program’s inception.

GEORGE P. BUSH VISITS WALLACE AND GOODNIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited Goodnight Middle School in San Marcos, Texas and Wallace Middle School in Kyle, Texas as part of his 'Year of Education' Initiative.  During his visit, Commissioner Bush taught an interactive Texas history lesson using reproductions of one of Stephen F. Austin’s original maps from the Texas General Land Office archives. Commissioner Bush also brought a special surprise for the class - students were given the chance to hold a cannonball fired at the Battle of the Alamo at the end of the lesson.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited Rapoport Academy - Quinn Middle School in Waco, Texas as part of his 'Year of Education' Initiative.  During his visit, Commissioner Bush received an up-close and personal look at Rapoport Academy’s state-of-the-art programs. Rapoport Academy’s Meyer High School partners with Connally High School to provide a "Triple Win Apprenticeship" program focused on workforce readiness. Commissioner Bush toured the “Triple Win Apprenticeship” joint program with teachers and some of its participants.

UPCOMING ARANSAS COUNTY VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with Aransas County and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Keep Aransas County Beautiful (KACB) to offer Aransas County Texans the opportunity to remove inoperable and derelict vessels through the Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) free of charge. Designed to provide owners with a voluntary method of disposal, interested boat owners are encouraged to participate if the vessel is less than 26 feet long, with longer boats being accepted on a case by case basis.
