CMR BUSH ANNOUNCES VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM TO BE OFFERED IN CALHOUN COUNTY
Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Vessel Turn-In program provided by the Texas General Land Office will be offered in Calhoun county on June 4th, 5th and 6th. “Vessels, if not disposed of properly, can be detrimental to our coast,” said Commissioner Bush. “Here at the Texas General Land Office, we work diligently to provide alternative ways for people to dispose of their vessels in an environmentally friendly way.

Inspired by the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s #ThisPlaceMatters campaign, The Past Revealed reminds visitors why we remember the Alamo and why #ThisPlaceMatters. Recent visitors to the Alamo have noticed lifts and other equipment on-site near the walls of the Church and Long Barrack, as the preservation team conducts conservation work like IR scans and multi-spectral imaging.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered in Matagorda, Texas. The total number of vessels turned in from both Matagorda and Sargent, Texas tallied 26 vessels for a total of 45 gallons of fuel/oil collected (which was recovered for proper disposal).

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Texas General Land Office Archives and Records, as part of the agency’s Save Texas History Program, acquired and conserved an important atlas of six printed maps created by U.S. Army Captain Zebulon M. Pike. Published in 1810, the atlas illustrates Pike’s troubled 1806-1807 exploration of the Louisiana Territory, which included the northern boundary of Spanish Texas. Captain Pike’s work greatly contributed to knowledge of the new territory acquired by the United States as well as parts of New Spain.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered in Corpus Christi. The total number of vessels turned in tallied 66 with approximately 80 gallons of waste oil on board (which was recovered for proper disposal). In addition, 31 boat trailers were turned in. The GLO's Vessel Turn-In was a very productive event to prevent and protect Texas' natural lands and resources from potential threat material. “Vessels, if not disposed of properly, can be detrimental to our coast,” said Commissioner Bush.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Texas General Land Office has received $46,313,471.21 in federal grant funding from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) to further support restoration of the Texas shoreline. "The revenue from GOMESA is crucial to enhancing and protecting the Gulf coast," said Commissioner Bush. " These funds will allow the GLO to fund coastal projects targeting the restoration of coastal damage from Hurricane’s Ike and Harvey and enhancing resiliency of the Texas shoreline to prevent future threats.

The Veterans Land Board (VLB) has previously contracted with a vendor to conduct the day to day operations of our four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries. Under the direction of Commissioner Bush and our Cemetery Director Eric Brown, the Texas State Veterans Cemeteries have exponentially grown and continuously received additional grant funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs. As such, the need for improvements in daily operations has substantially increased. Ultimately, the Veterans Land Board and the former vendor could not come to an agreement on certain contract terms.

Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for EN2 Bruce David Clements. Clements served in the United States Navy Branch from 1968 to 1971 and holds the rank, EN2. Clements has also been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Valor device, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal/Service ribbon. Clements is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral.

Bush announced that on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. SHARP, the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SGT Andrew Cavazos Ybarra. Ybarra served in the United States Air Force from 1975 to 1979.Ybarra is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. Please help us spread the word and ensure that our United States Air Force Veteran is not buried alone.
