Six-Day Derelict Vessel Turn-In Event in Port Isabel

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), The City of Port Isabel, The City of South Padre Island, and the Port Isabel Navigation District to provide the Port Isabel and South Padre Island communities with a free event to dispose of derelict vessels. The Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) is scheduled for October 17-22 in Port Isabel. The voluntary, six-day turn-in event allows residents to bring their derelict or inoperable boats to the designated drop-off location to be verified by the GLO and TPWD for eligibility.

General Land Office Wraps Up Aransas County Vessel Turn-In Program

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) concluded its Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) in Aransas County, which was held September 9-10. During the event, the GLO, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Aransas County, Keep Aransas Beautiful and the City of Rockport together collected 19 vessels measuring 331 linear feet, as well as two trailers.    Removing abandoned vessels from coastal waters comes at a considerable expense—around $200-300 per foot.

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Aransas County, Keep Aransas Beautiful and the City of Rockport to provide the community with a free event to dispose of derelict vessels. The Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) is scheduled for September 9-10 at the Aransas County Airport . The voluntary, two-day turn-in event allows residents to bring their derelict or inoperable boats to the designated drop-off location to be verified by the GLO and TPWD for eligibility. Boats must be clear of all waste, debris and trash.

Shoreline Restoration Work to Begin at McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) and multiple partners are set to begin work on the restoration of approximately 17 miles of the McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) shoreline in Jefferson and Chambers counties.The restoration project will span from High Island to Sea Rim State Park and will improve the shoreline by widening its beaches to better accommodate recreation, stabilizing the shoreline against further erosion by planting native species and constructing dunes, as well as protecting its marsh system, which acts as a critical habitat for&#16

General Land Office Wraps Up Calhoun County Vessel Turn-In Program

The Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Oil Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) team wrapped up its spring Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) which was held May 18-20. During the event, the GLO, Calhoun County and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department together collected 10 vessels measuring over 197 linear feet.  A derelict vessel is turned at the Calhoun County VTIP held last week  Removing abandoned vessels from coastal waters comes at a considerable expense—around $200-300 per foot.

WWII Veteran Requests 100 Cards for His 100th Birthday

Today, Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairman George P. Bush challenged Texans to show their utmost appreciation for World War II Veteran, Army Sgt. Everett Alexander, who turns 100 on May 10th. Sgt. Alexander—a resident of the Richard A. Anderson Texas State Veterans Home (TSVH) in Houston—has requested to receive at least 100 cards for this momentous occasion. Sgt. Everett was born in Florida and raised in Mt. Vernon, New York. He deployed to Europe during WWII where he served as a cook. Texans interested in showing their support for Sgt.

Commissioner Bush Announces 2022 “Treasures of the Coast” Art Contest Winner

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced Celina Gao of Katy as the overall winner of the 2022 Annual Adopt-A-Beach “Treasures of the Coast” art contest. Celina, a 6th grade student at Freemind Art Studio, submitted a postcard-style piece featuring a collage of various marine life species and coastal activities.“Congratulations Celina on your creative artwork that showcases some of the many reasons we cherish the Texas coast,” said Commissioner Bush.
