Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home to Host Veterans Day Program
The Alfredo Gonzalez Texas States Veterans Home will host a Veterans Day program at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015. After a ceremony honoring the five branches of the military, residents and guests will be treated to a BBQ lunch. Members of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, Law Dogs Motorcycle Club, Patriot Guard, and other military service-supporting organizations will be participating in this event. Veterans and citizens will gather on Friday, October 9th at 9 a.m. in the Austin Bergstrom airport to send-off four Texas WWII veterans as they depart to Washington, D.C. Messrs. Carl Johnson resides in the Floresville Texas State Veterans Homes while Carl Knight, John Marshal and Joseph Novembre live in the Temple Texas State Veterans Homes. Each of these veterans served with honor during WWII and will now have the opportunity to finally travel to our nation's capitol to view the World War II Memorial.

The National Museum of the Marine Corps has a new Texas ambassador — U.S. Marine Major James Crabtree. Crabtree was appointed to the position by Governor Greg Abbott. Crabtree coordinates the Texas Veterans Land Board's Voices of Veterans oral history program. His new duties as a member of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation's Governors Council will include helping spread the word to fellow Marines about the museum, just outside Quantico, Virginia. "It will be easy to talk about because it's the best museum I've ever seen," Crabtree said.

On Saturday, June 27th, generations of veterans from the Rio Grande Valley gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Texas Veterans Land Board's (VLB) Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen. The McAllen home is named after U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez, who was killed in action in Vietnam. Sgt. Gonzalez's mother, Dolia Gonzalez, was a special guest at the event.“Texans support our veterans and here in the Valley that is especially true,” said George P.
