The Texas General Land Office (GLO) in partnership with members of the Texas Coastal Nonpoint Source Pollution Program, launched a comprehensive, online resource for coastal communities to learn about managing and protecting water quality along the Texas coast.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the start of the Texas General Land Office (GLO) Save Texas History Program's 6th Annual Top Texan Tournament. This bracket style tournament officially started on Texas Independence Day and runs through the rest of March, coinciding with Texas History Month."March is an exciting time of year as Texas history buffs can share their knowledge of the great leaders in our state’s historic past,” said Commissioner George P. Bush.

Today, the Texas General Land Office announced that registration for the Annual Adopt-A-Beach Spring Coastwide Cleanup will begin Friday, March 5, 2021. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for the cleanup scheduled to occur on Saturday, April 17, 2021. The Texas GLO Adopt-A-Beach Spring Cleanup will take place at 21 different locations across the Texas coastline.

Today, Texas General Land Office announced the extension of the 2021 “Treasures of the Texas Coast Children's Art Contest.” Due to inclement weather and changes in postal service time, all Texas students (public, private, and home-schooled) in grades K-6 who wish to participate in this year’s contest, now have until March 10th to submit their work. Artwork should be based on the theme “Treasures of the Texas Coast” and portray why the Texas coast is important or noteworthy to the participating student.

Over 340 volunteers participated in the 2021 Annual Adopt-A-Beach Winter Cleanup that took place on February 5 and 6, 2021. Volunteers worked together to clean a total of 28.5 miles of beach and bay area. The two-day trash cleanup event resulted in over 8,900 pounds of trash being removed, leaving our Texas beaches clean and beautiful for wildlife and the community alike to enjoy. Sixty-three volunteers helped clean South Padre Island on Friday and collected 1,512 pounds of trash.

Today, the Texas General Land Office announced a newly-designed Adopt-A-Beach specialty license plate. The new plates are available to purchase for a total of $30, with $22 of that will be contributed to the Adopt-A-Beach program’s all-volunteer effort to keep trash off Texas beaches. The license plate features a photo by Texas’ own Kenny Braun. Braun’s work has been featured in Garden and Gun, Texas Monthly, Wired, Southern Living, Texas Highways, This Old House Magazine and more.
