CMR BUSH TEACHES TEXAS HISTORY AT STORM AND HILLCREST ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited 4th grade students Hillcrest and Storm Elementary Schools as part of his Year of Education Initiative. Commissioner Bush kicked off the school year by teaching an interactive Texas History Map lesson on cotton, cattle and railways using replicas of restored maps from the General Land Office Archives.

Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Wednesday, August 28th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for ADJAR David Lee Boone. Born on March 14, 1954, Mr. Boone served in the United States Navy from September 22, 1972 to November 21, 1973. Mr. Boone served as an Aviation Machinist's Mate (Jet Engine Mechanic). He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.Mr. Boone is not expected to have anyone attend his burial.

Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is encouraging communities impacted by the 2016 flooding events to submit applications for $19 million in reallocated Community Development Block Grants for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. Applications for acquisition and/or demolition of real property along with flood and drainage improvements will be considered. Entities eligible to compete for project funds will be the five counties designated "most impacted" by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which are Brazoria, Fort Bend, Harris, Montgomery, and Newton counties.

Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that it will soon publish Federal Register notices for disaster mitigation funds. The first notice will include funds for Texas, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, California, Missouri and Georgia; and the second will include funds for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
