Mapping and Assessment of the Aquatic Habitats within South Bay Coastal Preserve

Project Description

This project identified and delineate the aquatic habitats found in the South Bay Coastal Preserve by acquiring color aerial photography. The photography is used to produce digital and hard copy basemaps. Coastal Preserve managers will identify the location of, and extent of, sensitive habitats (seagrass beds and oyster reefs) in South Bay on the basemap using Geographic Information System (GIS) software and ground truthing. By providing a basemap from which to compare data from future aerial photography, the project will help the Coastal Preserve managers evaluate the success of future management strategies developed to minimize human impacts on these habitats.
