Project Description
The project will repair and replace levees, upgrade culverts, and replace water control structures on Matagorda Island in coordination with the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. CBBEP is partnering with USFWS to repair and replace the highest priority of 15 miles of levees and 26 water control structures to facilitate water management on approximately 6,000 acres of the West Marsh area on the Matagorda Island Unit. The repaired levees and water control structures will be hardened with riprap and other hardened infrastructure where appropriate to prevent damage from future storms. Levees will be sloped, possibly armored, and protected to reduce impacts from storm surge and flooding. All water control structures will include significant bulkheads and/or revetments to protect them from future storms.
