Maximizing the ecological value of coastal wetland restoration: comparisons among restoration techniques

Project Description

Texas A&M University at Galveston will expand its existing monitoring program to encompass several other restoration projects, including newly (< 5 yr) created BUDM sites.  In preparation of this study a subset of the mointored sites were planted with marsh vegetation, and others were left unvegetated. Sites will be compared to natural reference sites. Comparisons of the ecological values provided by the engineered and BUDM construction techniques will help to identify the most ecologically effective restoration approaches and enhance future restoration projects along the Texas coast.
