MBF Oliver Point Shoreline Protection Construction Project

Project Description

The project involves stabilizing the eroding shoreline at Oliver Point by installing nearshore segmented breakwaters to dissipate wave energy along the shoreline. The project will reduce erosion at Oliver Point (approx. erosion rate of 7 feet/year) and provide some protection to the adjacent Coon Island Bay shell ridges and nesting habitats by sheltering the breach in Shepherd's Crook from wave action. Additionally, vegetative plantings are intended to be placed landward of the breakwaters for habitat restoration.
