Commissioner Buckingham Announces the Results of the 2023 Adopt-A-Beach Winter Cleanups

Today, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced that over 400 volunteers participated in the 2023 Adopt-A-Beach Winter Cleanups and removed of total of 12,922 pounds of trash from seven sites during the two-day event on South Padre and across the Coastal Bend. “It is truly inspiring to see hundreds of volunteers take time out of their weekend to help give back to Texas beaches,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “Preserving our state’s coastline for future generations of Texans and their families to enjoy is paramount.

27th Annual “Treasures of the Texas Coast” Children’s Art Contest

AUSTIN—Today, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. kicked off the 27th Annual Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest, which is facilitated through the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Adopt-A-Beach Program. All Texas students, public, private, and homeschooled, in kindergarten through sixth grade are encouraged to send in their masterpieces. Artwork should be based on the theme “Treasures of the Texas Coast” and should depict why the Texas coast is important or special to the student.

Four-Day Derelict Vessel Turn-In Event: Brazoria County

BRAZORIA COUNTY—Today, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced that the Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Brazoria County, and the Brazoria County Fire Fighters Association to provide the residents of Brazoria County with a free event to dispose of inoperable vessels.
