Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO) approved $475,228 in Hurricane Harvey funds for the City of Sinton to improve critical sewer and wastewater infrastructure. During Hurricane Harvey, heavy rainfall overwhelmed the wastewater system resulting in a collection system failure. Local leaders prioritized the project to ensure the most effective use of available funds for infrastructure improvements."Hurricane Harvey devastated communities across the Texas Coast," said Commissioner Bush.

During Hurricane Harvey, the city's street and drainage system were overwhelmed due to the heavy rainfall. Today the Texas General Land Office's (GLO) announced the Homeowner Assistance Program's (HAP) successful efforts to rebuild homes is bringing the application process to a quick conclusion. All potential applicants must submit completed applications by December 31, 2019, to be considered for eligibility pending funding availability. Thus far the GLO has approved more than 1,700 applications for construction, with 640 homes currently under construction and 286 completed with keys in the hands of homeowners.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered recently in Aransas County, Texas.The total number of vessels turned in from Aransas County, Texas tallied 31 vessels and 12 boat trailers bringing a total of 130 gallons of fuel/oil collected. The fuel/oil was properly disposed. To date, the General Land Office has collected 742 vessels, 1236 gallons of fuel/oil waste, and 73 boat trailers coastwide since the program’s inception.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited Goodnight Middle School in San Marcos, Texas and Wallace Middle School in Kyle, Texas as part of his 'Year of Education' Initiative. During his visit, Commissioner Bush taught an interactive Texas history lesson using reproductions of one of Stephen F. Austin’s original maps from the Texas General Land Office archives. Commissioner Bush also brought a special surprise for the class - students were given the chance to hold a cannonball fired at the Battle of the Alamo at the end of the lesson.
