CMR. BUSH ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF “MAIL DROP: MAIL FOR VETS” PROGRAM
Today, Texas Land Commission George P. Bush announced the launch of “Mail Drop” a new program geared towards creating community engagement with Veterans in the Texas State Veterans Homes run by the Veterans Land Board. The program will begin with a trial run in the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home, in Big Spring, Texas. The program seeks to generate awareness within our community regarding the day to day lives of the men and women who admirably served our great nation.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the fifth amendment to the state action plan for the 2016 flood events is posted for public comment. This amendment modifies Harris County’s method of distribution regarding the line item for the city of Houston by reallocating $13,159,931 in infrastructure funding to be used for housing. This modification makes the city of Houston’s total housing allocation $23,486,968.

Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Tuesday, July 30th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for Mr. Melvin Harry Klingbeil. Born in January of 1937, Mr. Klingbeil served in the United States Army from January 13, 1958 to July 10, 1958. Mr. Klingbeil is not expected to have anyone attend his burial. Please help us spread the word and ensure that our United States Army Veteran is not buried alone.

Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO), in partnership with Allen Engineering and Science, will offer a series of workshops on the use of living shorelines. These shorelines serve as alternatives to traditional erosion prevention landscaping along the coast. The workshops will be held on Tuesday, July 30 in Corpus Christi, Tuesday, August 6 in Victoria and Thursday, August 8 in Texas City.

ROSENBURG, TX – Yesterday, June 26, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush toured Texas State Technical College Fort Bend Campus. The tour included highlights from various program areas where the college trains students to perform skills needed for employment in today’s high tech global economy. Throughout the tour Commissioner Bush saw first hand the skills needed to become a lineman, work in industrial maintenance, electric/power controls and environmental technology.

The Alfredo Gonzales Texas State Veterans Home announced plans to celebrate Independence Day with the unveiling ceremony of an Iwo Jima Raising the Flag sculpture. This intricate piece was carved out of wood six years ago by Harry James, a 101 year-old Navy veteran, and was donated to the State Veterans Home. The hand carved figure will be displayed in a glass case in the Alfredo Gonzales Texas State Veterans Home lobby. The unveiling ceremony will begin on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the Alfredo Gonzales Texas State Veterans Home. A BBQ for our Veterans will follow.
