Cmr. George P. Bush announces GLO amendment reallocating $19 million for flood mitigation projects for communities most impacted by 2016 floods
Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the fourth amendment to the state action plan for the 2016 flood events has been posted for public comment. This amendment reallocates $19 million from the planning activities to instead be used to fund acquisition and/or demolition of real property along with flood and drainage improvements. Entities eligible to compete for project funds will be the five counties designated "most impacted" by the U.S.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered in Corpus Christi. The total number of vessels turned in tallied 66 with approximately 80 gallons of waste oil on board (which was recovered for proper disposal). In addition, 31 boat trailers were turned in. The GLO's Vessel Turn-In was a very productive event to prevent and protect Texas' natural lands and resources from potential threat material. “Vessels, if not disposed of properly, can be detrimental to our coast,” said Commissioner Bush.

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Texas General Land Office has received $46,313,471.21 in federal grant funding from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) to further support restoration of the Texas shoreline. "The revenue from GOMESA is crucial to enhancing and protecting the Gulf coast," said Commissioner Bush. " These funds will allow the GLO to fund coastal projects targeting the restoration of coastal damage from Hurricane’s Ike and Harvey and enhancing resiliency of the Texas shoreline to prevent future threats.

Born in December of 1938, Burchfield served in the United States Army.Burchfield is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. Bush announced the results of the 2019 Coastal Spring Cleanup. “The dedication of our community to do more for the environment and the Texas coast is extraordinary,” said Commissioner George P. Bush. “Despite the threat of storms, 4,371 volunteers joined together and removed 47,009 pounds of trash from 143 miles of beaches and bays. Without our volunteers, this effort wouldn’t be what it is today.

Following the drowning of a King High School student on Whitecap Beach, the Texas General Land Office has announced the cancelation of Saturday’s cleanup for the neighboring Padre Island National Seashore and North Padre Island/Padre Balli Park beaches. As authorities attempt to recover the body, the General Land Office has determined that it is in the best interest of our volunteers and the community to cancel the cleanup. Our thoughts are with the King High School family during this difficult time. All other clean up locations will remain in operation unless previously noted.
