VLB to host Texas Veterans Benefits Fair in Harlingen on June 8th
A free “come and go” benefits fair for Texas Veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the VA Health Care Center at Harlingen. The fair, targeting all area Veterans, military members and their families, is one of several held throughout the state in 2019.Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) will be on hand to provide information on state programs including land, home and home improvement loans, as well as Texas State Veterans Homes and Cemeteries for Veterans and military members in Texas.

The resolution was joint authored by Carol Alvarado and Lois Kolkhorst in the Senate and Rep. Dade Phelan in the Texas House. The resolution urges Congress to combine FEMA’s short-term disaster housing programs with the U.S.

Bush announced that on Friday, May 24th, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. SHARP, the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for Apolonio Leyva.Leyva is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. Please help us spread the word and ensure that our United States Marine Corps Veteran is not buried alone. Members of the Rio Grande Valley community are welcome to attend.

The Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home is hosting a Memorial Day event, Monday, May 27th, honoring those who gave their lives for our country while on active duty. The community is invited to join the home for a special Memorial Day ceremony. Dr. Diego Restrepo, who has served in the United States Army from 1990 - present will deliver remarks. Other participants in attendance include the Sherman Police Regional Pipe Band and Texoma Composite Squadron-262 Civil Air Patrol. A BBQ luncheon will be held following the ceremony.

The Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home is pleased to invited the community to a Memorial Day event, Monday, May 27th, honoring those who gave their lives for our country while on active duty. Attendance is estimated to be around 200 -300. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a BBQ banquet catered by Bodacious BBQ in Lindale, TX. The ceremony will include a presentation of the Colors by Veteran staff members of Watkins-Logan TSVH, bagpipe taps, and remarks from retired LTC. Jim Snow.
